Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between therapy and coaching?
Therapy focuses on understanding patterns, managing stress, and improving how you function over time. Coaching tends to be more forward-looking and focused on goals and performance.
In practice, the work I offer draws on both. It is structured and practical, grounded in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), while also focusing on helping you move forward, make changes, and improve how you handle challenges day to day.
What kind of clients do you typically work with?
I mainly work with individuals who are functioning at a high level but experiencing significant pressure, stress, or burnout.
Many are in professional or leadership roles and are used to coping well, but are finding things increasingly difficult to sustain over time.
How practical is your approach?
My approach is active and structured. You will have space to talk and feel understood, which is central to how I work. At the same time, I do not take a passive role. The focus is on understanding what is happening and making clear, realistic changes that improve how you function.
Where appropriate, I will offer guidance and draw on my experience to help move things forward.
How practical is your approach?
This varies depending on your situation, and I can give you an estimate if you would find that helpful.
Some people benefit from a relatively short piece of work, while others choose to continue for longer to consolidate changes or maintain progress.
I do not believe in unnecessarily extending therapy. My aim is to help you reach a point where you no longer need support for the same issue.
I am happy to offer ongoing coaching or support where it is useful, but the focus is on alleviating distress as quickly as possible and achieving lasting benefit.
Do I need to be in crisis to benefit from this?
Not at all. Most people I work with are still functioning in their day-to-day lives, but are experiencing high levels of pressure, stress, or a sense that things are becoming unsustainable.
The work is often most effective before things reach a crisis point.
Are sessions online or in person?
Sessions can be held either online or in person, depending on your preference and availability.
Do you see all clients no matter what the concern?
I'm happy to discuss with you and see whether I'm the right therapist for you.
I specialise in helping people with professional and personal burnout, and also confidence issues, including driving phobia.
